DicomCleaner anonymises DICOM files either locally or through a PACS connection. Header elements are selected in blocks, allowing varying levels of anonymisation. Particular emphasis is placed on thoroughness and correctness, and conformance to the DICOM standard. A header section describing the anonymisation performed, may optionally be added to the cleaned files. Information that is stored as an annotation in the pixel data may be removed by blacking out sections of the image. Dates and times may be anonymised while preserving temporal relationships. Cleaned data is stored in a local directory with a DICOMDIR, burned to disk, or sent to a PACS destination. DicomCleaner is deployed as a Java Web Start application so may be run from a web browser or installed locally on any platform.
